A Model for Teaching with Technology

A Model for Teaching with Technology

Tomlinson(1995a) farklılaştırılmış öğretimi ayrıntılı olarak aşağıdaki gibi açıklamıştır:

From a systems approach, teaching with technology involves four major components: the students, the instructor, course content, and technology tools (See Figure 1). An examination of each component raises a set of issues that we need to consider in order to make technology integration as successful as possible. For example, content can be examined in terms of learning outcomes and the discipline being taught. Instructors can think of their own experience with technology, the amount of time they have for planning and teaching, and their view of their role in the teaching and learning process. We need to think carefully about our students, their exposure and access to technology as well as their preferred learning styles. Finally, we can turn to the technology itself and analyze it according to its functions.

Tips for Teaching - Grammar

01.Low Beginnning

Focus on basic sentence structure, word order and verb tenses Types of Materials: Texts which offer simplified structure, explanation and vocabulary

02.High Beginning

Focus on simple sentence combination and subordination, noun phrases and articles Types of Materials: Texts which offer expanded instruction in basic structures and tenses

03.Low Intermediate

Teaching presentation skills

Developing presentation skills is important for students on many types of English courses. Most obviously relevant to trainee teachers and business students, in fact many other types of courses aim to help students to communicate effectively to a group audience using a rich mix of spoken language, body language, voice projection, audio-visual aids and a structured approach to organizing the presentational materials and content.

It is vital that TESOL teachers and business English trainers are not only good presenters themselves but that they can also provide activities that will develop these presentational skills in their students.

Most business English courses will include strategies to help students acquire presentational skills by clear guidance and provision of activites to practise these skills in the classroom.

Word and sentence building

1. Write a phrase on the board. The students then have to take it in turns to add extra words to make it into a longer and longer sentence. The trick is that it must always remain a coherent sentence. No words can be removed although they can be moved around to change the order. This activity provides enjoyable practice in word order and sentence construction.

Example:
the old man
I saw the old man.
I saw the old man yesterday.
I was in town when I saw the old man yesterday.
I was working in town when I saw the old man yesterday.
I was working in town when I saw the deaf old man yesterday.
I was working in town when I saw the deaf old man in the shop yesterday.
I was working in the town where my sister lives when I saw the deaf old man in the shop yesterday.
... and so on.

5 Steps to an English Only Classroom

There are many benefits to having only English spoken in your ESL classroom. The most apparent thing right off the bat is the level of noise and chatter drops dramatically. All of a sudden, when students are required to use English, that hot topic they wanted to talk about doesn’t seem so important. There are other, more substantial benefits to an English only classroom. Students start to learn useful, real world English such as expressing their feelings and desires as well as the textbook English. But most importantly, requiring students to speak only in English will help them become more comfortable and confident expressing themselves in, and communicating through, English.

By following these 5 steps you will be able to eliminate any native language speaking and replace it with English. Better yet, you’ll be able to do it in less than 5 days. Let’s get started!
